Register. As the only pizza place in Richmond that is not a
corporate chain pizza place but rather a local pizza place, we are
pleased to be Richmond's own. We have customers that have been
enjoying our food for 5, 10, 15 even 20 years and we can't thank you
enough!
About
Us
Locally owned and
operated for over 25 years, we have been serving EKU Campus and the City
of Richmond with an emphasis on freshness of highest quality ingredients
preparing enormous portions with experience and care.
Quality
We reach near and
far to get the best ingredients at Apollo. Our Italian Sausage is
bought in raw bulk from the fine folks at Fontanini in Chicago, while our
tomatoes are bought from a local farmer. We cut no corners in the
purity of our ingredients or in the steps preparing them. Like
our sausage, our ground beef and chicken are seasoned, cooked and chopped
in our store. Our bacon is actual bacon slices, unlike the
bacon flavored bits that are standard in most other places. Our
pizza sauce consists of crushed tomatoes, lots of garlic and a virtual
tour through the Mediterranean spice route. Much of our produce such as lettuce, tomatoes and spinach are bought locally from small
businesses and chopped for consumption daily. Absolutely NEVER will
we bring in pre-chopped, treated and bagged produce to save time.
Our Cheeses; Mozzarella, Provolone, Swiss, Smoked Muenster, Parmesan, and
Sharp Cheddar are 100% real and 100% whole milk. Last but not least,
our quality is no better tasted than in our loyalty to fresh made
dough. Frozen dough is a lousy shortcut and sadly prevalent in most
pizza places, particularly chain establishments. Apollo Pizza dough
is made with flour, salt, sugar, olive oil and yeast which is slowly
mixed cold, then shaped by hand. It is aged about 50 hours, cold, so
that the yeast causes it to rise slowly. When the time is right, it
is ready to be hand tossed immediatly (when ordered) to create a fluffy and
crisp pizza crust or garlic bread.
Quantity
Every since I can remember,
it's always made sense when cooking, that if care and time were to be
invested in making a dish, you might as well make plenty of it.
Hence, our specialty salads, pastas, and pizzas are hefty layers of
goodness. Both Apollo's salads and our pastas are often either shared or
made into two meals. Our pizzas are itemized much heavier than the
chain pizza places. Nobody else in Richmond has the 20 inch Wagon
Wheel, which is our flagship for quality meeting quantity. Apollo's
"All the Way" Wagon Wheel is a local favorite that can't be
topped. Sporting 5 meats, 7 vegetables, extra cheese and weighing a
full 7 pounds it will happily feed 8 to 10 people at a time.

Over the years our
menu has evolved to include time honored recipes and well received
experiments. We try to encompass as much as possible without
stretching ourselves thin. If you want something that you can't exactly
find on the menu, as long as we have the ingredients, we will always
do our best to accommodate your desire. Apollo Pizza, within it's small
staff, has over 50 years of kitchen experience. That experience is
reflected in our commitment to create GREAT food and our approach to true
pizza as an art form.
